The Overlook
Just a short drive from central Hoover, this scenic spot is one of my go-to locations. It’s gorgeous whether the sun is glowing golden or the clouds are soft and moody. With sweeping views of the hills and a wide, open layout that gives kids room to explore, it checks all the boxes—scenic, peaceful, and full of natural light. In the fall, the trees here turn into a patchwork quilt of color. In the spring and summer, everything feels soft and alive. This location works beautifully year-round.
Forest Locations
Did you know Alabama is ranked fifth in the country for total forestland? Seventy-one percent of our state is covered in trees, and the variety is incredible. From towering pines to deep hardwood groves, there’s no shortage of forested beauty to work with.
Shooting in the woods gives you a rich, textured backdrop with beautiful filtered light, especially during golden hour. And depending on the season, the color palette changes dramatically. Spring brings vibrant greens, summer has a full lushness, and late fall delivers those deep amber tones we all love. Forest sessions also feel private and calm—perfect for families who want something peaceful and grounded.
Open Fields
I love a good field session, and luckily we have no shortage of beautiful, wide-open spaces around Birmingham and Hoover. Whether you’re dreaming of soft, tall grass blowing in the breeze or warm golden tones in the late afternoon sun, fields are one of the most timeless choices for family photos.
Springtime brings in fresh greens, wildflowers, and clear skies. Summer fields feel nostalgic and a little wild in the best way. And by fall, the grass dries into golden straw that glows in the evening light. A field session gives you a chance to slow down, breathe, and just be with your family for a little while. It doesn’t get more Alabama than that.
Railroad Park
Right in the heart of downtown Birmingham, Railroad Park offers a totally different vibe—urban, artistic, and full of energy. It’s one of the best spots for families who want a little modern edge to their session.
Not only does the park offer striking views of the city skyline and plenty of clean, urban hardscape, but it also features beautiful landscaping with native plants. My favorite is the muhly grass that blooms with feathery pink tufts in the fall—it’s like something out of a dream. Railroad Park is at its best during the sunset hours, when the light bounces off the buildings and everything feels a little bit magical.
Trails and Bridges
With so many wooded areas and hills, we’re lucky to have lots of trails and natural parks with beautiful bridges tucked away along the paths. These spots are ideal if you want a little bit of everything—trees, water, structure, and nature all rolled into one.
Bridges add such a lovely visual element to your photos, and they often bring a sense of movement and story to a session. Kids love to run across them, parents love the natural framing, and I love the way they tie a whole gallery together.
