What if my child doesn’t like the cake during their cake smash photo session?

That is completely okay and truthfully happens at about half of all Cake Smash Sessions.

Some babies dive right in, while others take a little time to warm up. At this age, everything is new. The texture of the cake, the sweetness, and even getting messy can feel unfamiliar at first. The most important thing is capturing your child’s personality in this season of life, and we will do that whether they love the cake or want nothing to do with it.

As a cake smash photographer in Birmingham, I never expect a baby to perform for the camera. I follow their lead and gently guide the session so we can capture a variety of natural expressions, whether they are excited about the cake or prefer to take things slow.

Some of the sweetest images from a cake smash session come from those quieter moments. Little looks, tiny hands exploring, or even a baby deciding they would rather observe than dive in.

If your child decides they want nothing to do with the cake, we simply shift the focus. Your cake smash photography session will still include beautiful, meaningful images that reflect your child’s personality in this season.
