Family Photos in a Field of Gold
Every once in a while, a session feels like it was meant to happen exactly the way it did.
This Birmingham family of five showed up with two energetic dogs, ready for an evening in one of the prettiest fields I’ve ever photographed. The mountain behind us was glowing in the late-day sun, and the field was blanketed in yellow flowers that swayed every time the wind shifted.
From the moment we started, it was clear this wasn’t going to be a stiff, posed kind of session — it was joy from the first frame. The kids ran ahead with the dogs, laughing and chasing through the grass while their parents looked on. Every time the wind picked up, the flowers shimmered like gold.
Sessions like this remind me why I love family photography so much. You can’t plan moments like these — you can only be ready for them. The dogs tangled leashes, the kids got grass on their jeans, and everyone laughed through the chaos. Those are the photos that tell the real story — not the perfectly posed, but the perfectly them.
As a family photographer in Birmingham AL, I always look for places that give families room to breathe and be themselves. This field did just that. There was space for everyone to run, sunlight that changed by the minute, and a backdrop that made the whole evening feel a little bit magical.
If you’re dreaming of a session that feels relaxed, natural, and full of life, this is your sign to bring the kids — and yes, even the dogs — and let’s create something real together.
