One Year of You

There’s something so special about first birthdays. The way babies light up when they realize everyone’s cheering for them. The wobbly steps. The frosting-covered grins. These sessions are pure joy — a little messy, a little chaotic, and completely worth it.

As a one year milestone photographer in Birmingham AL, I love capturing this age because it’s full of personality. Babies are curious, funny, and expressive in a way that only one-year-olds can be. They’ve grown so much since those newborn days, and it’s amazing to see how much life and spirit they bring to their session.

Cake smash sessions are always a favorite, but they’re about more than just the cake. We start with simple, timeless portraits — soft outfits, neutral backdrops, and natural light — before bringing out the cake for the big moment. Some babies dive right in, others take their time, and every reaction is perfect in its own way.

I keep these sessions relaxed and baby-led. We go at their pace, take snack breaks if needed, and capture all those little expressions along the way. Whether we’re in my studio or outdoors, my goal is always the same: to create images that reflect this fleeting, joy-filled season.
