Your Family Photo Session

You’ve booked your Family Photo Session, Now what?

Here you can find information on location, wardrobe selection and answers to FAQ’s

I am excited to capture the memories of this season of life for you. My goal is not to capture a bunch of stiff posed shots of everyone but to capture the personality of your family and give those moments to you as memories to cherish. While we will capture a few classic portraits, the majority of your gallery will be filled with laughs, hugs and sweet glances that warm your heart each time you see them.

What is Lifestyle Photography: During your session we will absolutely grab some classic family portraits and a classic portrait of each child. However the majority of your gallery will include images of your and your family laughing and connecting. Visit this post if you want to find out a little more about Lifestyle Photography .

Time of Day: If we are shooting in your home late morning to early afternoon is the when homes are usually lit up the best. If we are shooting outdoors we will shoot a little before sunset to take advantage of the warm light from the afternoon sun.

Length of Session: I typically am pretty fast. Most of my sessions take about 40 -50 minutes. Don’t worry, that is adequate time for a good size gallery!

Location: Together we will decide on the best location for your family photo session. We can shoot in your home if there is adequate light (many clients love the personal touch that shooting in their home adds to the shoot), or we can shoot at one of my favorite locations around Birmingham. See my GUIDE TO BIRMINGHAM PHOTO LOCATIONS for information on some great spots. Be thinking over that choices and please let me know if I can help with your decision!

What to Wear: Wardrobe should reflect who you are and your style. I do not recommend everyone matching but rather coordinating your outfits. Click here to see TIPS FOR PLANNING YOUR WARDROBE . Please feel free to text me photos of what you have planned or let me know what help you need.

Props: I do not use props in my sessions. However, if you have a family heirloom or something that holds a special place in your heart please let me know and we will see how we can incorporate it.

Children: Keep in mind that sitting and hearing “smile” over and over is not something that most kids are fond of. My sessions are designed to let your child move around, play and to have authentic interactions with you. That is when I capture the most precious memories! Don’t worry about active children, just relax and enjoy your time with your family!'

Trust the Process: There may be times during our session that you feel silly or think what we are doing is strange. I have different little action items that work in different ways; some are to make one person or everyone relax and some are just to make everyone laugh. Trust my process and you will end up with images full of love, laughter and connection

Please arrive and be ready to start on time: Your session is timed for lighting so it is important that we start on time. Please plan for traffic, etc… accordingly.

When will I hear from you? I will email you about 2 weeks before your session with other details you may need, and we can start finalizing your location choice at that point. Until then please text, email or call if you need anything kristie@kristieallenphotography.com, 205 470 7195
