A Beautiful Evening Family Session at Birmingham Botanical Gardens

There is something special about photographing families with young children. No matter how carefully we plan, little ones always bring their own ideas to the session, and that is often where the magic happens.

This sweet family of three met me at Birmingham Botanical Gardens just before sunset. The gardens were beautiful, the light was soft, and we had the perfect evening to spend exploring together.

Their daughter was full of energy from the moment we started. She wanted to run, explore, and see everything around her. We spent much of our time simply following her lead, allowing her personality to shine through naturally. Those are often my favorite moments during a family session. The smiles are genuine, the laughter is real, and everyone gets to relax and enjoy being together.

About halfway through our session, she decided it was time for a snack break. We paused for a few minutes while she enjoyed a little treat and recharged. As every parent knows, sometimes a snack can completely change the course of an evening. Before long she was ready to go again, and we headed back into the gardens for more exploring and more photographs.

One of the things I love most about family photography is that sessions do not have to be perfect to be meaningful. Real life is filled with snack breaks, little adventures, and moments that don't always go according to plan. Those are often the memories parents want to hold onto years from now.

As the sun began to set, we captured a mixture of classic family portraits and candid moments of connection. The beautiful golden light filtering through the gardens created the perfect backdrop for documenting this season of their lives.

The Birmingham Botanical Gardens is one of my favorite locations for family sessions because it offers so much variety while still feeling peaceful and natural. Whether children want to explore, parents want beautiful scenery, or families simply want a relaxed experience together, it is always a wonderful choice.

These years move quickly. The playful moments, the snack breaks, the little hands reaching for Mom and Dad all become part of the story. I am so grateful I had the opportunity to help preserve these memories for this sweet family.
