Family Photos Are Even Better When Everyone Comes Along
One of my favorite questions families ask before a family photo session is, "Can we bring our dogs?"
My answer is almost always, "Absolutely."
Our pets are part of the family, and years from now, they will be some of the sweetest memories captured in your photographs.
This family of three decided to include their dogs in their fall family photos, and I couldn't have loved the evening more.
We met in the woods on a beautiful early fall evening in Alabama. The temperatures had finally started to cool, the light was soft, and the trees created the perfect backdrop for a relaxed evening together. It was one of those sessions that never felt rushed. Instead, it felt like spending time with a family simply enjoying one another's company.
Of course, the dogs kept us on our toes.
There were plenty of moments when they wanted to explore instead of pose, but honestly, that is part of the fun. Some of the best photographs happen when families stop worrying about everything being perfect and simply enjoy whatever the evening brings.
We wandered through the woods, stopping whenever the light caught my eye or the dogs decided to cooperate for a few minutes. Along the way, we captured beautiful family portraits, genuine laughter, and the quiet moments that often become favorites once a gallery is delivered.
One of the reasons I love outdoor family photography is because there is room for moments like these. Families can walk, talk, laugh, and interact naturally instead of feeling like every minute has to be carefully posed.
Every family has something that makes their story unique.
Sometimes it is a favorite park.
Sometimes it is the place your children love to explore.
And sometimes it is the dogs that have been part of your family through so many important seasons of life.
Those details deserve to be remembered too.
When families ask me what makes the best family photos, my answer is always the same. The photographs that mean the most are the ones that feel the most like you.
If bringing your dogs helps tell your family's story, then they belong in the pictures.
