One of my favorite pieces of advice for seniors is this: bring the things that tell your story.
Senior pictures are about so much more than choosing the right outfit or finding the perfect location. They are about celebrating everything that has made you who you are over the last four years, and sometimes the smallest items carry the biggest memories.
I photographed a senior recently who arrived with a bag full of cheer uniforms. Not just the one she currently wore, but uniforms from every stage of her cheer career. As we looked through them together, each one represented a different season of her life. Different teammates, different competitions, different memories, and years of hard work that led her to where she is today.
Those photographs quickly became some of my favorites from her session.
Your memorabilia does not have to be elaborate. It might be a letterman jacket, a championship ring, a varsity letter, a favorite instrument, dance shoes, a softball glove, a football jersey, a theater program, an art portfolio, or even the college sweatshirt you'll soon be wearing every weekend. These are the pieces that help tell your story in a way that no location ever could.
The best part is that these items often bring out genuine emotion. They spark conversations, memories, and laughter that naturally find their way into your photographs. Years from now, you'll be grateful you included them because they represent a season that cannot be recreated.
