If you know you want family photos, how far ahead should you actually book your photographer?
For most of the year, I recommend reaching out at least a few weeks ahead of time. But if you want fall family photos in Birmingham, earlier is definitely better.
Fall Is Different
October and November are the busiest months of the year for most family photographers.
Everyone suddenly remembers the same three things at once: cooler weather, Christmas cards and Christmas gifts. 😂
If you have a specific date or weekend you need, I would not wait until the last minute to get on the calendar.
What If You Need Photos Soon?
Ask!
Even during busy season, I occasionally have an opening because someone rescheduled or a date becomes available.
You don't need to assume I'm booked just because your family photo session is a little last minute.
Think About When You Need the Finished Photos
This is especially important if you're planning to use your family pictures for Christmas cards or gifts.
Don't just think about the day you want to take the pictures. Give yourself time for the session, gallery delivery, choosing your favorites and ordering whatever you plan to make with them.
What About the Rest of the Year?
Spring and winter usually give you a little more flexibility than fall.
And if you're willing to schedule during the week instead of only looking at weekends, that can give us even more options.
The easiest answer? As soon as you start thinking, “We really need new family pictures,” reach out. We can figure out the rest from there.
