There is something about cap and gown photos that feels a little more celebratory.
By this point, the work is done. The late nights, the exams, the long days of showing up and pushing through—it is all behind them. What is left is this moment to step back, take it in, and actually celebrate what has been accomplished.
We met at the Birmingham Botanical Gardens for this session, and it was the perfect setting for it. This space is so classic, open and easy, which made it feel less like a formal photo session and more like a chance to enjoy the moment. There was a lightness to it. A sense of relief mixed with excitement for what comes next.
She had already graduated from UAB, and you could feel that confidence. Not rushed or uncertain, just steady and happy. The kind of confidence that comes from finishing something important and knowing you are ready for the next step.
Cap and gown photos do not need much to be meaningful. They are simple, but they carry a lot of weight. This is the moment that marks the end of one chapter and the beginning of another, and it deserves to be documented in a way that feels just as real as it is.
And of course, the cap toss.
